- 加国高需技术多冷门
- 据星岛日报报道，联邦公民及移民部长康尼（Jason Kenney）昨天公布，加国2009年度吸纳移民目标人数介于24万至26.5万人之间。根据新修改的移民法，凡今年2月27日之后递交的技术移民申请 案，只限根据部长特别指令、由移民部最新公布的38个高需技术行业，移民部才予处理审批。除非申请人作为国际学生或临时劳工，在加国居住一年以上，又或者 得到确定的工作机会。
明年吸纳移民逾24万
经济类移民类别（含专业技术类federal skilled worker移民、投资移民、加拿大经验类Canadian Experience Class移民、魁省经济移民、各省提名移民及已居留加国的护理者Live-in Caregivers等共6类）方面，2009年加国吸纳的总数为15.66万人。其中专业技术移民以外其它五个小类别将按现有的优先级进行审理。

- 联邦移民部长康尼昨天下午在怡陶碧谷的移民部办事处召开的新闻会上，正式宣布了有关加快处理移民申请个案的行动计划。
明年吸纳26.5万移民
康 尼指出，正当全球各地的经济处于困境之时，英国、澳洲和部分欧洲国家已经宣布将削减海外移民的吸纳人数。但是，加拿大仍计划在2009年从海外吸纳24万 至26.5万名新移民，这不仅与2008年的移民吸纳目标保持一致，而且达到了加国在过往15年来移民吸纳目标的最高水平。
而在2009年计划从海外吸纳的24万至26.5万名新移民中，包括技术移民在内的经济类别移民将多达156，600人；家庭团聚类别的移民将有71，000人；包括难民在内的人道和同情类别的移民则将有37，400人。
康尼解释说，尽管加国经济正陷入衰退，但他在上周与全加各省和地区的移民厅长会谈后获悉，全加各地仍面临劳工短缺的严重危机，而联邦移民部在开展广泛的专家谘询后也得出相同的结论。

- 报道说，这艘名为“The MV Camilla Desgagnes”的货船从加拿大东部蒙特利尔出发，于九月抵达努奴瓦特西部的剑桥湾镇、库格鲁克图克、约阿港和塔拉约科等地村落。货船在航行过程中未遇到冰块，以致于海岸警卫队随时待命的破冰船完全没有用武之地。

- 加美通关证照新措施明年6月实施
- 根据加美两国于2004年11月所签署的“西半球旅游协定草案”（Western HemisphereTravel Initiative， WHTI），2009年6月起所有往来两国陆路边境关卡的人士均须提示护照，或其他经美国国土安全部核准的高科技防伪身分证明，如“增强式驾照”（Enhanced Driver's License），或快速通关卡（Nexus）等。
根据WHTI，为降低两国边境通关证照查验新措施对民众带来的困扰，特别将新措施分阶段实施，去年开始所有经空中航线进出加美两国的施客均需使用护照或NEXUS卡，接着才是2009年6月1日起所有加美两国海上及陆路关卡全面实施。

- 经合组织预测 加国明年逾128万人失业
- 经合组织指出，全球经济深陷困境，正经历上世纪80年代以来的最糟糕时期，加拿大难以独善其身，明年经济将出现0.5%的负增长。这是迄今为止官方及半官方组织所给出的最糟糕的预测数字。
